Mount Merapi and Mauna Loa ComparisonMauna Loa is a shield volcano in central Hawaii, near the city Hilo. It is a shield volcano that is over 4170m above sea level. Mount Merapi is a composite volcano in Central Java, Indonesia close the to Yogyakatra, that has a population of 3 million. It is 2930m above sea level. Mauna Loa is the less dangerous of the two, as despite being a threat to Hawaii and to temporary disturbance to airlines, would not be a world wide disaster. However Mount Merapi is a composite volcano, and would be a a huge threat to Indonesia, not including its hazardous gases it would release into the atmosphere. Its superheated pyroclastic flows that can travel at speeds of 100mph would be a huge threat to civillians, and the lava that is erupted would be a massive threat. The gasses released would affect the whole world, and could stop flights for a time that could reach months.
